The Real Beauty And The Beast – Hypertrichosis

With the live-action Disney movie currently in theaters, the story of Beauty and the Beast is back in a big way. This fairy tale, however, has been around since 1740. It was actually inspired by a real couple, and the unfortunate “beast” suffered from hypertrichosis. Hypertrichosis is a rare syndrome which causes an abnormal amount of hair growth over the body. It’s also known as Ambras syndrome and informally as werewolf syndrome. To learn more about the real people behind the story, watch today’s clip. Just a heads up – it’s in Spanish with English subtitles, so don’t freak out!
