Recently my large toe swelled up overnight and turned into a red, throbbing mess. My doctor thinks it might be gout, and we’ll know for sure once the lab results are back. In the meantime, I’ve been doing some research on the subject, because I don’t know much about it. Here’s one of the interesting videos that I found. It’s from a podiatry clinic in Tampa, and the doctor is draining a patient’s gouty tophi. Gout is a form of inflammatory arthritis that develops in some people who have high levels of uric acid in their blood. Gouty tophi are deposits of uric acid crystals that build up over a long period of time. As always, viewer discretion is advised.
