Today’s clip shows the endoscopic removal of a fungal ball from the sphenoid sinus. The sphenoid sinus is located in the sphenoid bone near the optic nerve and the pituitary gland on the side of the skull. A fungal ball is an isolated fungal infection typically occurring in a single sinus cavity. Aspergillus is the most commonly found fungus.
