Fingernail Pus Pocket

The paronychium is the soft tissue surrounding the borders of the nails. It prevents dirt and bacteria from getting under the nails, which could cause infections. When this tissue does become infected, it’s known as paronychia. It’s usually caused by injury or irritation, such as a hangnail or cuticle damage. Today’s clip is a brief, but interesting, illustration of the draining of a paronychia. It’s performed by Dr. John Gilmore.
