A bursa is a fluid-filled sac that helps to reduce friction between tissues of the body. Bursitis occurs when the bursa becomes inflamed, and is usually caused by prolonged pressure being applied to the bursa. This pressure leads to swelling and fluid buildup. When this occurs, the fluid can be aspirated with a needle. Such is the case in today’s clip. Dr. John Gilmore demonstrates this procedure on his patient, a former Army medic and Vietnam vet.
