This patient of mine has a pretty sizable cyst on his upper back. It has never been squeezed, never been inflamed or infected. These are the easiest types of cysts to be removed if they are untouched, since there is no scar tissue present, so the entire cyst is more easily extracted.
Epidermoid cysts are benign growths under the skin, a sac containing keratin (skin cells), that can continue to grow gradually since skin cells continue to “flake off” into the cyst sac.
The only way to prevent recurrence of this type of growth is to excise it and make sure the entire sac wall is removed. Which is what I do in this case.
